The five-star Hyatt Regency Hotel comprises 269 rooms and is situated north of Yogyakarta on the slopes of Indonesia’s most active volcano, Mount Merapi. In July 1995 the contract for design completion and construction was awarded to Decorient.

The foundation consists of approximately 600 piles for the hotel building, while rear-house facilities are founded on a spread-footing system. The shape of the hotel building is based on the famous Borobudur Temple, with a façade of numerous steps and different levels. In order to create an authentic appearance, a combination of precast concrete beams and columns plus aluminium windows have been used. The structural walls and floors of the main buildings are made of reinforced concrete, with brick-work partition walls.
