A renovation of the building took place in 1999, renovations of the emergency exit and guardhouse followed in 2003. The latest renovation and refurbishment (phases two and three) of the embassy complex was completed in January 2007. All renovation phases were executed by Decorient.

The Dutch Embassy complex was built by Decorient in 1980 and is located on a 12,000 square metre area near the centre of Jakarta. The complex comprises a consular department, a four-storey chancery and a two-storey ‘Erasmus House’ (a Dutch cultural centre containing a library, classrooms, an exposition area and a multi-purpose hall that can hold up to 300 seats). Also included are four houses for staff, a swimming pool, a technical building and a tennis court.

Scope of work

The scope of work comprised the renovation of the interior, the mechanical and engineering works and the implementation of a new security system as well as voice and data cabling. Also included in the contract were the external works.

The project was set to a complicated schedule in order to avoid disturbances to embassy activities. The bulletproof glass, carpet and wallpaper as well as the blast wall pipes were imported from the Netherlands as required by the embassy. All other materials were purchased locally.
