Batang, Central Java, 31 March 2022 – Our Nestle Batik & Spark project team is celebrating a milestone achievement in term of safety performance last month.
The project team has achieved one million safe manhours without LTI (Loss Time Injury). It was a significant safety milestone achieved after approximately 8 months of construction at site. Special printed shirt to celebrate this achievement was distributed to all Decorient’s employees on this special day.
Our clients have celebrated the same milestone two weeks earlier, due to the extra hours added from the Piling and Enabling Works. From Nestle Indonesia, Project Manager Arjo-Hary Tjahjono and VP Technical Director Jean Luc De Vuyst attended the modest ceremony considering the pandemic time. Certificates of merit were given to participating Contractors in this ceremony, including Decorient as the Main Contractor of this Project.
It is never easy to have zero LTI in a construction site for a huge project like Nestle Batik & Spark. With so many contractors and workers working together in a site of 20 hectares, alignment in understanding and implementation of safety plan from all stakeholders is critical for the safety performance of the project. Nestle and Meinhardt (The Engineer) in this case have led the process very well, ensuring all contractors following the safety standard set in this project and being proactive in reporting incidents.
We believe in transparency during project execution which is even more so important in Safety. Our commitment to truth is deeper than stating the facts – it extends to situations such as searching the root causes of issues and highlighting them early, proactively. We value truth over comfort. The project has several first aid and medical treatment cases reported so far. We encourage our employees to report minor injuries and near misses too. We believe that by reporting even the smallest incidents, we can eradicate the root cause of issues at the earliest stage, thus preventing major incidents to occur.
The project team is striving to improve the safety performance because there are still some ways to go before the next milestone, the two million safe manhours.
